The Warisan Difference

What Sets a Focused Inheritance Practice Apart

Choosing legal representation for an inheritance matter means trusting someone with a family's history and future. Here is what Warisan brings to that responsibility.

Six Reasons Families Choose Warisan

Direct Lawyer Access

Clients communicate with the lawyer handling their file — not passed between staff or held at arm's length.

No Artificial Urgency

We work at a pace that suits the family's situation, not one driven by targets or throughput.

Written Records Throughout

Every meeting and development results in a written note. Families are never reliant on memory alone.

Stated Fees Before Engagement

Fees are disclosed upfront in a letter of engagement. No changes mid-matter without written agreement.

Malaysian Law Expertise

We practise exclusively within Malaysian succession frameworks — civil and Faraid — without distraction from unrelated areas of law.

Strict Confidentiality

All matters are held under legal professional privilege. Family affairs are treated with complete discretion.

Each Benefit, Explained

Professional Expertise in Inheritance Law

The principal lawyer at Warisan has focused on estate and succession work since 2006. That focus matters. Inheritance law in Malaysia sits at the intersection of civil statute, court procedure, and — for Muslim clients — Syariah principles. A lawyer who handles estate matters alongside dozens of unrelated practice areas cannot develop the same depth of familiarity with the frameworks, the registries, the common court delays, and the practical solutions that experience provides.

  • Over 18 years practising in Malaysian estate and succession law
  • Familiarity with High Court probate practice in the Klang Valley
  • Working knowledge of both civil and Islamic inheritance frameworks
  • Active member of the Malaysian Bar with current practising certificate

What This Means in Practice

When an unexpected complication arises in an estate — a co-owned property with incomplete documentation, an overseas asset, a beneficiary who cannot be located — an experienced lawyer draws on prior situations to chart a path. We have seen most complications before, and that steadiness is itself a service to the family.

Our Client Communication Approach

We contact clients when something happens — not on a fixed schedule that may not align with actual progress. We also return calls and messages within one business day, regardless of how complex or routine the enquiry appears. Families navigating grief and legal complexity deserve that consistency.

Client Service That Respects the Situation

Inheritance matters often follow loss. Families arriving at a legal practice are not always in a position to absorb dense information quickly. Our approach to client service is built around that reality — we take the time needed to explain, we do not use language that creates pressure, and we follow every meeting with a written note so that what was discussed is not lost.

  • Written summary after every meeting or significant update
  • One-business-day response to all enquiries
  • Telephone and remote consultations available
  • Plain language throughout — no unexplained jargon

Transparent, Stated Fees

Legal fees for inheritance work vary considerably in the market. Some practices quote low initial fees and add charges as complexity emerges. Warisan takes a different position: we state the fee before the engagement begins, and we do not revise it mid-matter unless the scope changes materially — in which case we discuss that change with the client before proceeding.

  • Will drafting from RM 1,750 — stated in advance
  • Probate applications from RM 2,010 — scope agreed upfront
  • Inheritance consultations at RM 580 — single session, no obligation
  • Written letter of engagement before any billable work begins

Why Clarity on Fees Matters

Families under financial or emotional strain should not have to wonder what their legal costs will reach. Transparent fees allow clients to plan appropriately and engage without uncertainty about the final figure. We consider this basic professional practice.

How We Compare

Distinctive Features of Our Practice

The Written Follow-Up Note

After every meeting or significant development in your matter, we prepare and send a brief written note summarising what was discussed, what was decided, and what happens next. This is not a formal legal document — it is a practical reference so that no detail is lost between appointments. Few practices offer this consistently; we consider it a baseline.

The No-Commitment Consultation

Our Inheritance Inquiry Consultation (RM 580) was designed for families who have a specific question but are not ready — or do not need — to commission a full engagement. Ask about a step in the probate process, a clause in a will, or the law of intestate succession. We provide a candid answer and a written note. That is the extent of the obligation.

Telephone-First Option

Some clients, particularly those recently bereaved or those outside central Kuala Lumpur, prefer not to attend the office for a first meeting. We offer telephone and video consultations for initial engagements. The quality of the legal advice is the same; the format is adapted to what works for the client.

Civil and Faraid Frameworks

Malaysia's inheritance law is not uniform. Non-Muslim estates are governed by the Wills Act and the Distribution Act; Muslim estates by Faraid principles under Syariah. Warisan is conversant with both frameworks and can advise families whose matters sit at that intersection — including mixed estates and those requiring coordination between the civil courts and the Syariah administration.
